How Long Will My Friend Stay in Prison? He Is Sentenced 5 Years Max and His Parolle Is Set at 2.5 Years.?
Question by gtipl85: How long will my friend stay in prison? he is sentenced 5 years max and his parolle is set at 2.5 years.?
He has been admitted to a drug rehab program at Sheridan Correctional center in Illinois, he has no previous criminal record before this conviction for selling exctasy. now i have read up that for every 3 months of good behaviour in the prison he is awarded 45 good time days…. my question is . Does that mean those good time days are subtracted from his parole date? or how does that work , from what i think he might just spend one year in the correctional center.

Parole is set at 2.5 years…That is when he will get a parole hearing to see if he can be released at that time or not.

Probably not long enough!!
Contact the prison in question and ask this question. I would say 18 to 20 months.
no, he’ll get out in 2 1/2, if he dont get caught going against the rules………..he aint gettin out in no 1 yr on a 5 yr sentance………………
Setting parole at 2.5 years means that he will be eligible for a parole hearing two and half years from the date of sentencing minus the 45 days of good time.
Eligible for a hearing does not mean he will get out. If you have any influence with him, let him know that everything he does in prison is going to be on a printout that the parole board members will read prior to his going into the hearing.
Any tickets he gets, any hole shots he pulls, any fights he gets into will pretty much guarantee he will be flopped ( turned down) and told to try again in another year.
He will be offered different rehab programs while incarcerated. Tell him to take them seriously. It is viewed as a very positive thing to pass these courses and have the certificates.
One final thought to add. When he does get released, he will be on paper for another year or two. If he lapses, hangs with the old friends that got him in trouble before or gets caught with a dirty urine test, he will be remanded back for full reinstatement of his sentence.
Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you and him
